Wasgamuwa National Park

Wasgamuwa National Park is a beautiful nature park located in the Matale and Polonnaruwa districts of Sri Lanka. It covers about 39,000 hectares of land. The park is famous for being very wild and natural, with many different landscapes like big grasslands, thick forests, and wide rivers like the Mahaweli and Amban Ganga.

It was made a national park in 1984 to give a safe home to wild animals. The weather here is mostly warm and dry, which makes it a perfect place for animals to live. If you like nature that isn’t too crowded with people, this is the place for you!

📍 From Kandy: Drive through Hasalaka and Hettipola. It takes about 3 hours.

📍 From Matale: You can reach the park via the Laggala and Wilgamuwa road.

📍 From Polonnaruwa: It is about a 2-hour drive through the scenic countryside.

🚪 Entrance Gates: The main entrance is at Handungamuwa. There is also another entrance at Kiri Oya.
