Manampitiya Bridge

The Manampitiya Bridge is one of the longest bridges in Sri Lanka. It is actually two bridges side by side! There is an old steel bridge built a long time ago (in 1922) and a newer, wider bridge built in 2007. It crosses the famous Mahaweli River, which is the longest river in the country. The bridge is about 302 meters long and connects the North Central Province with the Eastern Province.

This location is very important because it is the main link between Polonnaruwa and Batticaloa.

Getting to Manampitiya Bridge is easy! 

📍 Location: It is located on the A11 Main Road (Habarana - Polonnaruwa-Batticaloa road).

🚌 From Polonnaruwa: It is just about 10km away from Polonnaruwa town. You can take a bus heading to Batticaloa or hire a tuk - tuk.

🚂 By Train: You can take a train to the Manampitiya Railway Station, which is very close to the bridge.
