Sorabora Wewa
Sorabora Wewa is a very old and beautiful lake located in Mahiyanganaya, in the Uva Province of Sri Lanka. It was built more than 2,000 years ago during the time of King Dutugemunu. People say a giant named Bulatha built it all by himself by damming a river between two hills. It is a large lake that spreads over a wide area and looks like a blue sea surrounded by green trees.
📌 Why Should You Visit?
🌟 Ancient Magic: It is one of the most amazing examples of how clever ancient Sri Lankans were at building water systems.
🌟 The Rock Gate: Unlike other lakes, this one has a special water gate (sluice) cut directly into a natural rock. It is the only one of its kind in the country!
🌟 Natural Beauty: The view of the sun rising or setting over the water is truly breath-taking and peaceful.
📌 Other Important Details
↔️ Engineering Marvel: Most ancient lakes use a structure called a 'Bisokotuwa' to control water, but Sorabora uses the natural rock itself, which still works perfectly today.
↔️ The Legend: Bulatha the giant is said to have built this tank to show his loyalty to the King. His wife is also famous for building a stone staircase nearby while bringing him food!
↔️ Archaeology: The site is protected by the government because it is a very important historical monument.

🚌 Public Transport: You can take a bus to Mahiyanganaya and then hire a tuk-tuk to reach the lake entrance.
📌 What Experience Can Visitors Get?
Visitors can feel a deep sense of peace while watching the calm water. You get to step back in time and see a 2,000-year-old "living" machine that still helps farmers today. It is a perfect place to escape the busy city life and enjoy the fresh air and the sounds of nature.
