About Us

Bambarakanda Falls

Bambarakanda Falls is the tallest waterfall in Sri Lanka. It stands at a massive height of 263 meters (863 feet)! Located in the Badulla District near a small town called Kalupahana, it looks like a long, thin silver thread falling down a giant black rock. It is surrounded by beautiful pine forests and green mountains, making it a very peaceful place to visit.

📌Why Should Visit

✅ The Tallest View: It is the #1 highest waterfall in the country, so it is a “must see” for everyone.

✅ Perfect for Photos: The mix of the tall falls and the pine trees makes every picture look like a postcard.

✅ Nature Therapy: It is away from the noisy city. The air is fresh, and the sound of falling water is very relaxing.

✅ Easy Hike: You don’t have to walk for hours to see it; the main viewing spot is quite easy to reach.

📌Other Important Details

↔️ Location: Kalupahana, Badulla District (Uva Province).

↔️ Water Source: It is formed by a stream called Kuda Oya.

↔️ Best Time to Visit: March to May is great for weather. If you want to see it with lots of water, visit between November and January.

↔️ Entry Fee: There is a small fee (around 200 LKR for locals and 500 LKR for foreigners).

📌Things to Do

🌟 Sightseeing: Walk to the viewing platform to see the whole waterfall.

🌟 Swimming: You can take a dip in the cool natural pool at the base of the falls.

🌟 Trekking: If you like adventure, you can hike to nearby spots like “Lanka Ella” or walk the famous “Devil’s Staircase” trail.

🌟 Picnic: It’s a lovely spot to sit down and enjoy some snacks with family or friends.

📌How to Get There

🚗 By Car/Van: From Colombo, take the A4 highway (Ratnapura - Bandarawela road). When you reach Kalupahana Junction, turn left and drive about 5km on the narrow road to reach the falls.

🚌 By Bus: Take any bus heading to Badulla or Bandarawela (like the #99 route). Get down at Kalupahana Junction and take a tuk-tuk to the waterfall entrance.

🚂 By Train: Take the train to Haputale or Ohiya station, then take a bus or tuk - tuk to Kalupahana.

📌What Experience Visitors Can Get

Visitors usually feel a sense of wonder because the waterfall is so tall. Walking through the pine forest feels like being in a different country. The mist from the water feels cool on your face, and the overall vibe is very quiet and natural. It is a great place to clear your mind.

📌Important Tips and Guides

⚠️ Wear Good Shoes: The paths can be slippery, especially if it has rained recently.

⚠️ Stay Safe: Do not try to climb the slippery rocks near the edge of the waterfall. It can be very dangerous.

⚠️ Leech Protection: Since it’s a forest area, there might be leeches. Bringing some lime or salt is a good idea.

⚠️ Don’t Litter: Please bring your plastic bottles and trash back with you to keep the place clean.

Bambarakanda Falls is a true natural wonder of Sri Lanka. Whether you want a quick stop to take photos or a full day of hiking, this giant waterfall will not disappoint you. It’s a simple, beautiful, and refreshing place that every nature lover should visit at least once!
