About Us

Galway’s Land National Park

Galway’s Land National Park is a small but very special forest located right inside the city of Nuwara Eliya, Sri Lanka. It is a high-altitude park, which means it is high up in the mountains and often covered in a beautiful mist. It became a national park in 2006 to protect the trees and the many types of birds that live there. Even though it is small, it is a very calm and green place.

📌Why Should Visit

✅ You should visit this park because it is very easy to reach from the town.

✅ It is a great place to see nature without having to travel a long way into the wild. If you love birds, this is one of the best spots in Sri Lanka to see them up close.

✅ The forest looks very magical with moss covered trees and fresh, cool air.

📌Other Important Details

↔️ The park covers about 29 hectares of land. It is located very close to Lake Gregory and Victoria Park.

↔️ It is famous for its “montane” forest ecosystem, which is a fancy way of saying “mountain forest.”

↔️ Many of the plants and birds found here are endemic, meaning they only live in Sri Lanka.

📌Things to Do

🌟 Walk the trails: Follow the quiet paths that loop through the thick green forest.

🌟 Bird watching: Try to spot rare birds like the Sri Lanka White eye and the Dull blue Flycatcher.

🌟 Photography: Take beautiful photos of the tall trees and the misty atmosphere.

🌟 Relax: Enjoy a peaceful break away from the noise of the city streets.

📌How to Get There

🛺 Getting there is very simple! Since it is within the Nuwara Eliya city limits, you can take a short tuk-tuk ride from the town center.

🚶 You can even walk there if you are staying in a nearby hotel. It is located just off the road that leads toward Badulla.

📌What Experience Visitors Can Get

Visitors will feel a deep sense of peace. Walking through the forest feels like stepping into a different world where everything is quiet and green. The air is very clean and chilly, which feels very refreshing. It is a wonderful way to spend an hour or two connecting with nature.

📌Important Tips and Guides

⚠️ Wear good shoes: The paths can be wet and slippery, so wear shoes that don’t slide.

⚠️ Bring a jacket: Nuwara Eliya is cold, and it can feel even colder under the shade of the trees.

⚠️ Be quiet: To see the birds and animals, you should walk and talk very softly.

⚠️ Keep it clean: Please do not leave any trash behind so the park stays beautiful for everyone.

Galway’s Land National Park is a hidden gem in the hill country. It is the perfect place for a quick nature walk and a chance to see Sri Lanka’s unique mountain wildlife. It is simple, quiet, and definitely worth a visit during your stay in Nuwara Eliya.
