Diyaluma Falls is one of the most breathtaking waterfalls in Sri Lanka, standing at an impressive 220 meters. Located just 6 kilometers from Koslanda along the Colombo-Badulla Highway, it is easily accessible and offers stunning views. The falls cascade down a rocky escarpment, creating a spectacular sight for visitors.
The waterfall is fed by the Punagala Oya, a tributary of the Kuda Oya, which eventually joins the Kirindi Oya river system.
The name “Diyaluma” translates to “rapid flow of water” or “liquid light”, reflecting the shimmering beauty of the falls. According to a tragic local legend, the falls are named after a love story. A young chieftain’s betrothed was tragically killed while attempting to reunite with him. In response, the gods caused water to flow from the mountain in a cascade of light to veil the tragedy.
Diyaluma Falls is popular among locals and tourists alike. Visitors can enjoy stunning views from the base of the falls and embark on adventurous treks to the upper falls. දියලුම දියඇල්ල යනු ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ අතිශය දෘශ්‍යමය ආකර්ෂණයකි. කොස්ලන්ද නගරයෙන් කිලෝමීටර 6ක් පමණ දුරින් කොළඹ-බදුල්ල මාර්ගයේ පිහිටා ඇති මෙය පහසුවෙන් ළඟා විය හැකි ස්ථානයකි. ශිලාමය තීරයක් හරහා වැටෙන ජලය, දර්ශනීය දසුන් සාදයි.
මෙම දියඇල්ල සපයනු ලබන්නේ පුනගල ඔයාවිනි, එය කුඩා ඔයාව සමඟ එකතු වී කිරිඳි ඔයාවට ගලා යයි.
“දියලුම” යන නාමයෙහි අර්ථය “වේගයෙන් ගලා යන ජලය” හෝ “දියමන්ති ආලෝකය” යන්නයි. දේශීය ජාතික කතාවකට අනූව, තරුණ නායකයෙකු හා ඔහුගේ සැමියාව අතර ඇති වූ දුකින් පිරුණු ආදර කතාවක් අනුව, දෙවියන්ගෙන් ජලය මෙලෙස වර්ෂා කිරීමක් ලෙස සැලකේ – එම ව්‍යාසනය වසන්නට ය.
දියලුම දියඇල්ල සංචාරිකයින් අතර අතිශය ජනප්‍රිය වේ. යටිපෙදෙසේ සිට දසුන විඳීමක් වශයෙන් මෙන්ම, ඉහළ පැත්තට තරණය කිරීමේ සහ ස්වභාවික කුළුණු තුළ සීතල සේරිනිම් සඳහාද මෙය සුදුසුයි. වටාපිටාව රූපලාවන්‍යයෙන් පිරුණු පරිසරයකි.
