Jethavanaramaya

Jethavanaramaya is a massive monument called a “stupa” located in the ancient city of Anuradhapura. It was built a long time ago (over 1,700 years ago!) by a famous king named Mahasen. It is made entirely of red bricks and was once one of the tallest buildings in the whole  world.

 🌟 It’s Huge: It is so big that you will feel like a tiny ant standing next to it.

Did you know? It took about 93 million bricks to build this! It is almost 400 feet tall. Long ago, it was the third tallest building in the world, almost as tall as the Great Pyramids in Egypt. Inside, it is  believed  that a special belt worn by Lord Buddha is kept safe.

 ➡️ Walk Around: Take a slow walk around the big circle of the stupa.

 ➡️ Take Photos: You can take beautiful pictures of the giant dome and the green trees.

 ➡️ Visit the Museum: See old coins, colorful beads, and stone statues found nearby.

 ➡️ See Animals: You can often see monkeys playing and birds flying around the big trees.

 🚂 By Train: You can take a fun train ride from Colombo to the Anuradhapura station.

 🚌 By Bus: Many buses go to Anuradhapura from all over the country.

 🛺 Tuk-Tuk: Once you are in the city, a small “tuk-tuk” ride can take you straight to the gates.

⚠️ Wear White: People usually wear white or light-colored clothes to show respect.

⚠️Shoes Off: You must take off your shoes and hat before walking near the stupa.

⚠️Timing: The sand can get very hot under the sun! It is best to visit early in the morning or late             in the afternoon.

⚠️ Cleanliness: Please do not throw any trash on the ground. Let’s keep this beautiful place clean!
