Raja Sabha Mandapaya
The Audience Hall, also known as the Raja Sabha Mandapaya or Magul Maduwa, is a deeply historic open air pavilion located in Kandy, Sri Lanka. Positioned inside the grand Royal Palace complex and right next to the famous Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic (Sri Dalada Maligawa), this site served as the royal court where the Kandyan kings met their ministers, delivered justice, and held important state discussions.
Construction began during the reign of King Sri Vikrama Rajasinha, the last king of Sri Lanka. The hall is celebrated worldwide for its stunning Kandyan architecture, featuring a high pitched tiled roof supported by dozens of beautifully carved wooden pillars. It stands as a proud reminder of the island’s rich history and fine craftsmanship before the era of British colonial rule.
📌Why Should You Visit

🌟 Perfect Location: Since it sits right within the Temple of the Tooth complex, it is incredibly easy to add to your Kandy city travel list.

↔️ The Pillars: There are 64 main wooden pillars supporting the roof, carved out of precious local hardwood like Halmilla and Teak.
