🌊 Structure: The waterfall is split into seven beautiful cascading segments, giving rise to its name Hathmale (හත්මළේ) — which translates to “Seven Levels” in Sinhala.
🌄 Origin: Born from the pristine Gongala mountain range, the water flows into the Ginganga River, enriching the biodiversity of the surrounding area.

🗺️ How to Get There

📍 Location: About 8 km from Deniyaya Town, Southern Province.
🚗 Directions:

Travel through Deniyaya city center and continue along the Deniyaya–Pallegama Road.
After around 7 km, look for the “Hathmale Ella” signboard on the right, just before Pallegama Bridge.
Turn right onto Hathmale Ella Road and drive 1 km to a private garden (this is the furthest motorable point).
From there, either drive a high-clearance vehicle or walk 250 meters, followed by a steep descent to the falls.
⚠️ Road Condition: Rugged and poorly maintained. 4WD or walking is advised for the last stretch.

While the site’s beauty continues to attract visitors, increased tourism has led to littering, especially with plastics and polythene. All travelers are urged to follow Leave No Trace principles to preserve this natural wonder for future generations.
