Hakgala Botanic Gardens

Hakgala Botanic Gardens is the second largest botanical garden in Sri Lanka. It is located about 10 kilometers away from the famous Nuwara Eliya town, along the Badulla road. This garden sits high up in the mountains, about 5,400 feet above sea level, which makes the air very cool and fresh.

The garden was started way back in 1861. At first, it was used to grow Cinchona (a plant used for medicine), but later it became a place for beautiful flowers and trees from all over the world. It is famous for its hilly landscape and the massive “Hakgala Rock” that stands right behind it like a giant guardian.
