Soaring 270 meters (886 feet), Gerandigini Falls (also called Gerandi Ella) is one of Sri Lanka’s most dramatic waterfalls—a multi-tiered spectacle visible from miles away. Named for its sinuous, snake-like flow, this hidden giant tumbles through tea country near Ramboda, offering adventurous travelers a breathtaking natural wonder.

Head toward Ramboda (on Kandy-Nuwara Eliya road).
Near Tawalantanna, follow signs to the tea estate (100m above falls).
Hike down via estate paths or village trails from Ramboda.
Moderate difficulty (slippery rocks, steep sections).
Guides recommended – Locals can show safest routes.
Sunrise/Midday: Best light to capture the falls’ full height.
After Rainy Season (Nov–Jan): Strongest flow, misty rainbows.
Vantage Points: Tea estate overlooks or riverbank near the base.
“Gerandi Ella” means “Rat Snake Waterfall”—a nod to its twisting, narrow cascades that mimic the serpent’s movement. Similar-named falls exist, but this is the most iconic.
