Ella Rock

Ella Rock is a famous, towering cliff that overlooks the beautiful town of Ella. If you look up from the main street of Ella, you can see this massive rock standing tall against the sky. It is one of the most popular hiking spots in Sri Lanka’s hill country. The journey to the top is like a mini – adventure. You walk along old railway tracks, pass through green tea estates, and finally climb through a thick forest to reach the peak. Once you get to the edge, the whole world seems to open up below you with a view that will literally take your breath away.

05. How to Get There

📍 Starting Point: Begin your walk at the Ella Railway Station.

🛤️ The Tracks: Walk along the railway tracks towards the Kital Ella station.

🌉 The Turn – off: After passing Kital Ella, look for a small path turning left near a bridge.

🌲 The Ascent: Follow the path through the long grass and then up into the forest until you reach the top.

But when you finally stand on that rocky ledge and look down at the Ella Gap, you feel like you’re on top of the world. 📌Important Tips and Guides

⚠️Wear Proper Shoes: The last part of the climb is very steep and can be slippery. Do not wear flip flops!

⚠️Bring Water: There are no shops on the way up. So bring plenty of water and maybe a few snacks.

⚠️Be Map Smart: Use an offline map (like Google Maps or Maps.me). Local “guides” might tell you that you are lost just to offer help for money.
