Sera Ella

Sera Ella is one of the most unique and beautiful waterfalls in Sri Lanka. It is located in the Matale District, hidden deep within the beautiful Knuckles Mountain Range. It is not very tall (only about 10 meters or 33 feet), but it is very wide. The most special thing about this waterfall is that there is a cave behind the water. This means you can actually walk behind the falling water without getting wet!

Sera Ella is located near Illukkumbura in the Dumbara (Knuckles) jungle.

🚗 From Matale: Travel to Rattota and then towards Riverston. Pass the famous “Riverston Peak” and “Pitawala Pathana”.

🚗 The Route: Drive down towards the village of Puwakpitiya. You will see a sign board for Sera Ella.

🚶 The Walk: From the main road, you have to walk down a set of concrete steps (about 15-20 minutes) to reach the waterfall.
