Ponnampalavaneswarar Temple

The Ponnampalavaneswarar Temple (also known as Sri Ponnambalam Vanesar Kovil) is a very special Hindu temple located in Colombo, Sri Lanka. Unlike many other colorful temples you see in the country, this one is unique because it is built entirely out of black granite stone. It looks like the ancient temples found in South India. It is dedicated to Lord Shiva and was built by a famous local family more than 100 years ago. The dark stone gives it a very calm and cool feeling inside.

🛺 By Tuk-Tuk/Taxi: This is the easiest way. Just tell the driver “Ponnampalavaneswarar Kovil in Kochchikade” or show them the location on your phone. It is near the famous St. Anthony’s Shrine.

🚌 By Bus: You can take any bus heading to Kotahena or Pettah. From the Pettah main bus stand, it is a short tuk-tuk ride away.
