Carved into a 12.3-meter-high rock formation, the Degaldoruwa Raja Maha Vihara (දෙගල්දෝරුව රජමහා විහාරය) is a historic Buddhist temple filled with stunning Kandyan-era frescoes, ancient rock architecture, and deep-rooted cultural significance.
🎭 Breathtaking Murals – Hand-painted frescoes illustrating Buddhist Jātaka tales and the famous Mara Yudde (Battle with Māra).
🕹 Rock-Carved Design – A temple completely hollowed out of natural rock, showcasing intricate craftsmanship.
🌟 Historical Significance – Built under King Kirti Sri Rajasinha’s reign and completed by his younger brother Rajadhi Rajasinha.
🧠 Unique Drumming Hall (Digge) – Unlike most temples, this drumming hall is directly attached to the structure instead of standing separately.
🏛️ 18th Century: Established as a royal temple and entrusted to Moratota Dhammakkanda Maha Nayaka Thera, an important monk of the time.
🤓 Folklore Connection: Legends tell of a farmer discovering golden sickles in a rock crevice, leading to the temple’s construction.

🎨 විශ්මයජනක බිතුසිතුවම් – බෞද්ධ ජාතක කතා සහ ප්‍රසිද්ධ මාර යුද්ධය (මාර සමඟ සටන) නිරූපණය කරන අතින් පින්තාරු කරන ලද බිතුසිතුවම්
🪨 ගල් කැටයම් නිර්මාණය – ස්වාභාවික කලු ගලකින් සම්පූර්ණයෙන්ම කරන ලද කුහර සහිත දේවාලයක්, සංකීර්ණ ශිල්පීය හැකියාවන් පෙන්නුම් කරයි
🏛️ ඓතිහාසික වැදගත්කම – කීර්ති ශ්‍රී රාජසිංහ රජුගේ පාලන සමයේදී ඉදිකරන ලද අතර ඔහුගේ බාල සොහොයුරු රාජධි රාජසිංහ විසින් නිම කරන ලදී
🥁 අද්විතීය බෙර වාදන ශාලාව – බොහෝ විහාරස්ථාන මෙන් නොව, මෙම බෙර වාදන ශාලාව වෙනම නගා සිටුවීම වෙනුවට ව්‍යුහයට කෙලින්ම සම්බන්ධ කර ඇත
🕰️ 18 වන සියවස – රාජකීය විහාරස්ථානයක් ලෙස ස්ථාපිත කර එකල වැදගත් භික්ෂුවක් වූ මොරතොට ධම්මක්ඛන්ද මහා නායක හිමියන්ට භාර දෙන ලදී
📚 ජනප්‍රවාද සම්බන්ධතාවය – ගොවියෙකු ගලක කුහරයක රන් දෑකැති සොයා ගැනීම ගැන ජනප්‍රවාදවල සඳහන් වන අතර එය දේවමාළිගාවේ ඉදිකිරීම් සඳහා හේතු විය
🎨 උඩරට යුගයේ කලාත්මක බව – දේවමාළිගාවේ සිතුවම් නිර්මාණය කරන ලද්දේ ප්‍රසිද්ධ කලාකරුවන් හතර දෙනෙකු විසින් වන අතර, ගස් පොත්තෙන් ලබාගත් ස්වාභාවික වර්ණ භාවිතා කරමින් එය සිදු කර ඇත

🧘 නැමදුම් කුටිය – දැවැන්ත සැතපෙන බුද්ධ ප්‍රතිමාවක් සහ බුදුන්ගේ අතීත ජීවිත නිරූපණය කරන විස්තරාත්මක බිතුසිතුවම් සහිත සන්සුන් අවකාශයකි
