Lankaramaya

Lankarama is a beautiful and serene ancient stupa located in the sacred city of Anuradhapura. Built by King Vattagamani Abhaya (King Walagamba) in the 1st century BC, it is one of the eight sacred places (Atamasthana). A unique feature of this site is the rows of stone pillars surrounding the stupa, which once supported a “Vatadage” (a circular cover built over the stupa).

⚠️ Footwear: You must remove your shoes before entering the stupa premises. The stone floors can get very hot in the afternoon, so wearing a pair of socks can make your walk much more comfortable.
