Delft Island, a unique and remote destination in Sri Lanka, was recognized for its ecological importance through an Integrated Strategic Environmental Assessment in 2014. With support from UNDP and UNEP, the Sri Lankan government officially designated it as a national park in 2015 to preserve its rich biodiversity and cultural heritage.
🌟 Home to Sri Lanka’s Only Wild Ponies! These ponies, believed to have been introduced by the Portuguese during colonial times, are the island’s most famous residents. 🌿 Ecosystems & Biodiversity – The island’s distinct landscapes support a variety of flora and fauna, though research on its full biodiversity is still developing.
🗿 Colonial Ruins – Delft Island is dotted with Dutch and Portuguese ruins, including ancient coral-built structures.
🏝 Limestone & Coral Formations – The island’s terrain is composed of limestone and coral, giving it a striking, rugged beauty.
🚢 Getting There: Accessible by ferry from Jaffna, offering a scenic journey.
☀️ Best Time to Visit: December to April for the best weather.
🎭 Things to See: Baobab Trees, Pigeon Hole Rock, the Ancient Fort, and the famous Ponies.

• ගමන අතරතුරින් ඔබට දිවයින වටා පැතිරුණු වටාපරිසරය නැරඹිය හැක
