Shrine of Our Lady of Matara

The Shrine of Our Lady of Matara (St. Mary’s Church) is a very famous Roman Catholic church located in the coastal town of Matara in southern Sri Lanka. It is situated right by the sea, facing the Indian Ocean. This church is well-known for its ancient statue of the Virgin Mary holding baby Jesus, which is believed to be over 400 years old. People of all religions visit this shrine to pray for miracles and protection.

🚶 Walking: If you like walking, it is a nice stroll along the coast from the main town area.

මාතර මාතාවන්ගේ සිද්ධස්ථානය (මාතර ශාන්ත මරියා දෙවස්ථානය) යනු ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ දකුණු පළාතේ, මාතර නගරයේ මුහුදු වෙරළ අයිනේ පිහිටා ඇති ඉතා ප්‍රසිද්ධ රෝමානු කතෝලික පල්ලියකි. ඉන්දියන් සාගරයට මුහුණලා පිහිටා ඇති මෙම දෙවස්ථානය වඩාත් ප්‍රසිද්ධ වී ඇත්තේ එහි ඇති ඉතා පැරණි, ආශ්චර්යමත් දේව මාතාවන්ගේ ප්‍රතිමාව නිසාය. ජේසු බිළිඳා අතින් ගත් මෙම ප්‍රතිමාවට වසර 400කට වඩා පැරණි ඉතිහාසයක් ඇතැයි සැලකේ. සියලු ආගම්වල ජනතාව තම දුක් කරදර කියා පිහිටක් පතා මෙම පූජනීය ස්ථානයට පැමිණෙති.

🛺 කොළඹ සිට: අධිවේගී මාර්ගයේ (Southern Expressway) මාතරට පැමිණෙන්න (පැය 1.5 – 2ක් පමණ). එතැන් සිට ත්‍රී රෝද රථයකින් “බීච් පාරේ පල්ලිය” වෙත යන්න.

🚶 පයින්: ඔබ ඇවිදීමට කැමති නම්, මාතර නගර මධ්‍යයේ සිට මුහුදු වෙරළ දිගේ සුන්දර පා ගමනකින් වුවද මෙහි යා හැකිය.
